Our Material Handling Solutions for the Food & Beverage Industry

In the Food & Beverage (F&B) industry, the margin for error is zero. Whether you are processing infant formula, spices, cocoa powder, or liquid sweeteners, your handling system must do more than just move product—it must protect your brand’s integrity, ensure consumer safety, and maximize yield.
At Mactex, we specialize in EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning) of turnkey material handling systems. From hygienic food powder handling in Malaysia to advanced liquid recovery, we provide the engineering precision required to thrive in a highly regulated global market.
The Challenges of F&B Material Handling
Processing food-grade materials presents unique engineering hurdles that standard industrial conveyors cannot solve. Those challenges are:
| Contamination & Cross-Contamination: | Open systems like belt conveyors expose products to dust, pests, and airborne pathogens. In batch-mixing environments, residues from previous runs can lead to allergen cross-contact. |
| Climate-Induced Clumping (The Humidity Factor): | For Malaysian and tropical food plants, high relative humidity (often >80%) causes hygroscopic powders like sugar, milk powder, and flour to absorb moisture, leading to pipe blockages and spoilage. |
| Product Degradation: | Fragile food particles—such as freeze-dried coffee or cereal—can be pulverized by high-velocity dilute phase systems, destroying the texture and quality of the final product. |
| Waste & Cleaning Downtime: | Liquid handling lines often leave significant “hold-up” (residual product) in pipes, leading to expensive waste and hours of manual cleaning. |
Mactex Engineering Solutions: The Modern Food Plant
We design systems that turn these challenges into competitive advantages. Our approach focuses on containment, automation, and hygiene.
1. Advanced Pneumatic Conveying (Dry Handling)
We move your powders through fully enclosed, dust-tight pipelines. Depending on your material’s characteristics, we deploy:

Dense Phase Conveying (Low Velocity): | Ideal for fragile food products and abrasive ingredients (like sugar). By using high pressure and low air velocity, we ensure your product arrives at the mixer intact, with zero degradation. |

Dilute Phase Conveying: | A cost-effective solution for robust powders, engineered with high-efficiency filtration to ensure zero dust emission into the factory environment. |
2. High-Recovery Liquid Handling & “Pigging” Systems
For viscous food products like sauces, oils, or syrups, Mactex integrates automated pigging technology.
-
- What it is: A hygienic internal plug (the “pig”) is launched through the pipe to “wipe” the line clean.
-
- The Benefit: You recover up to 99.5% of the product that would otherwise be flushed away during cleaning. This reduces waste-water treatment costs and slashes batch changeover times.
3. Integrated Dust Collection & Filtration
F&B plants are prone to combustible dust explosions (e.g., flour or sugar dust). Our systems include an integrated filtration system and explosion-venting technology to meet international safety standards while keeping your production floor sterile.

Pneumatic vs. Mechanical: Why Leading F&B Brands are Switching
For many legacy plants in Malaysia, screw conveyors and bucket elevators are the norm. However, modern hygienic handling systems favor pneumatic solutions for several reasons:
| Feature | Pneumatic (Mactex) | Mechanical (Screws/Belts) |
| Sanitation | Fully enclosed; CIP (Clean-in-Place) ready. | Open to the environment; difficult to deep-clean. |
| Space | Flexible piping routes around existing machinery. | Rigid, straight-line footprints; takes up floor space. |
| Maintenance | Minimal moving parts; low wear-and-tear. | High maintenance (bearings, belts, motors). |
| Safety | No exposed moving parts; zero dust risk. | Risk of pinch points and dust combustion. |
Compliance & Standards: Built for Global Markets
Mactex understands that compliance is not optional. Our systems are engineered to meet the strictest international and local regulatory frameworks:
-
- HACCP & GMP Ready: Our systems feature 304/316L stainless steel construction, food-grade gaskets (FDA approved), and internal finishes (up to RA < 0.2µm) that prevent bacterial growth.
-
- Halal Compliance: As a leading engineering partner in Malaysia, we ensure our lubricants, seals, and installation processes adhere to Halal-certified manufacturing requirements.
-
- ATEX/NFPA Certification: For plants handling combustible powders, we provide explosion protection and grounding to ensure total operational safety.
The Mactex Advantage: Humidity-Proof Engineering
A common failure in “off-the-shelf” imported systems is their inability to handle the local climate. Mactex specializes in climate-resilient engineering.
We integrate dehumidified air supply units and temperature-controlled piping into our pneumatic systems. This ensures that even on the most humid days in Malaysia, your food powders remain free-flowing, preventing the “caking” that causes unplanned downtime in lesser systems.

Your Questions, Answered.
How do you prevent product breakage in pneumatic systems?
We utilize Dense Phase Conveying. By moving material at a much lower velocity (2–8 m/s) compared to Dilute Phase (20m/s+), the “slugs” of material move gently through the pipes, preserving the integrity of fragile flakes, granules, and powders.
Is it possible to automate the cleaning process?
Yes. We design Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems where the internal surfaces of the pipes and vessels are sanitized using automated spray balls and chemical cycles, eliminating the need for manual disassembly.
Can your systems handle multiple ingredients for batching?
Absolutely. Our systems often include automated weighing and dosing stations. We can pull different ingredients from multiple silos or big-bag unloaders and deliver them with high precision (up to +/- 0.5%) to your mixers or blenders.
How do "Easy to Pig" systems save money?
By recovering the product left in the pipe at the end of a run, you essentially get “free” product that would have been wasted. Furthermore, because the pipe is physically wiped clean by the pig, you use significantly less water and cleaning chemicals, lowering your environmental footprint.
